Midway and Lake Onalaska

Once you cross the long Black River bridge you get back into a drier and more wooded part of the trail as seen above. In many places the trail runs through the woods but you can see the open farmlands off to the sides through the trees or openings. I have a panoramic view of this later in this photo tour.

 

This is "Petticoat Junction" in the town of Midway, Wisconsin (just north of Onalaska). I thought that the artwork on this building was an interesting flash-from-the-past! Do any of you remember the TV series Petticoat Junction from the 60s (or from reruns)?

The artwork on this building must be relatively new since I discovered something interesting as I was looking up the town and viewing my route in Google Maps. If you search for "Front Street Onalaska Wis" in Google Maps then go to the street view of Front Street and OT you can see the same building without the artwork.

Note: This is as of 6/6/2014 and the Google Street View could get updated at anytime. At this point in time it still shows the building without the artwork. Also I am not sure if "Midway" is officially a town at this point or an unincorporated part of Onalaska.

 

Continuing south of Midway on the Great River Trail I passed through this grassy and wooded area as the sun was starting to go down.

 

I took the photo above and the following photos as I was passing by the views of Lake Onalaska later in the day as the sun was setting.

At this point I noticed quite a few joggers and walkers on the trail and I was wondering where they came from ~ since I had not gotten to the town yet. As I stopped for another picture I noticed a couple coming down the stairway off in the woods to the right in the photo above.
