Crossing the bridge on the Randall Road Trail

Continuing south on the Randall Road Bike Trail you go down a fairly steep hill just before you cross the long, steel and wooden bridge shown in the photo above. The trail has been very open to this point but it starts to get a little more wooded just after this bridge. The bridge goes over a stream or creek that eventually flows into the Fox River.

comming out of the LeRoy Oakes forest Preserve

After the bridge you go through a wooded part of the trail and then through the LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve. This is a very nice part of the trail The photo above is as you are leaving the forest preserve.

A barn next to the Randall Road Trail

There is a fairly picturesque farm along the southern part of the Randall Road Bike Trail as shown above.

a beautiful field that the Randall Road Trail goes through

You wind through a nice field on the southern end of the trail just before it connects to the Great Western Trail.

Actually I have seen this part of the trail referred to as the Great Western Trail too. This can be confusing too since there is also a branch of the Great Western Trail that connects to the Illinois Prairie Path between West Chicago and Wheaton and heads east. The different branches of these Great Western Trails connect but only indirectly. For my purposes, I still consider this the Randall Road Trail until it connects to the Great Western "trail head" on the other side of Dean Street near St. Charles (in the photo below).

The Great Western Trail sign

Here is where the Randall Road Trail connects to the Great Western Trail. I still consider this the trail head for the eastern part of this part of the GWT but this point could be debatable. I don't think that trail names are always real exact in some cases.

Bike rear View Mirror

The photo above was is actually taken from the Great Western part of the trail but I really liked the bike rear view mirror perspective of this photo. The rider in the red shirt in the mirror is your truly.
