More Accurate Heart Rate and Lifetime Warranty

The new NordicTrack GX5.0 Recumbent Exercise Bike is as comfortable, smooth and stable as the popular NT GX4.0 Recumbent, has a Lifetime Warranty plus this bike has a higher user weight capacity (350 lbs) and comes with a Polar Wireless Chest Strap and compatible console for more accurate heart rate monitoring.

Most Recumbent Fitness Bikes (with the exception of the very low end models) come with contact grip heart rate monitors. Contact grip HR monitors are not as accurate as chest strap HR monitors although they can be convenient for a quick workout.

Fortunately, the NordicTrack GX5.0 Recumbent comes with both - Contact Grip and Wireless Chest Strap HR monitors giving you the convenience of the handle grip monitors and the more accurate chest strap monitors, which also frees up your hands for other activities such as reading, reaching for your water bottle, using an iPod or TV remote. 

If you need a little extra motivation, the NordicTrack GX5.0 is also iFit Live compatible which allows your bike to communicate with the internet, via a Wi-Fi signal and the iFit wireless adapter (optional) on your bike.

The iFit Live Feature allows you to upload your workout stats to the internet and/or download new workout routines, routes and courses via Google Maps and apps from the iFit Live site to your fitness bike providing more variety and motivation to your workouts.

The NordicTrack GX5.0 Recumbent also has a Lifetime Warranty on the frame, a 350 lb weight limit, a port for an iPod or MP3 player and built in speakers.

NordicTrack Bikes are the high end brand models manufactured by Icon Fitness, the largest fitness equipment manufacturer in the world, and maker of Proform, Healthrider, Weslo and other brands as well as being the maker of iFit and iFit Live.

Having Icon Fitness behind them gives NordicTrack some advantages to offer more for less. NordicTrack Recumbents are sold online and at Sears which also gives them the advantage of brand name popularity.

About-Bicycles Review

The NT GX5.0 Recumbent is still very new but fortunately, I had the opportunity to test this exercise bike recently at a local Sears store side by side with the Best Buy Rated NordicTrack GX4.0 Recumbent.

I found the NT GX5.0 Recumbent to be just as comfortable, if not a little more comfortable, than the GX4.0 Recumbent and this bike was smooth, very stable and quiet. The console was intuitive and easy to read and the seat was really easy to adjust to the exact right position with the large seat adjustment lever.

I did find one feature that is available on the NordicTrack GX4.0 Recumbent that the newer NT GX5.0 Recumbent did not have and that was the upper handlebar adjustment. The GX4.0 has a swivel adjustment for the top part of the handlebars which allows you to fine tune the handlebar position. The newer GX5.0 only had an adjustment for the position of the console.

This recumbent would be a good buy based on its comfort, design, and quality alone but what gives this bike an additional advantage over the competition is the Polar Wireless Chest Strap and contact grip heart rate monitors plus the iFit Live compatibility.

Customer Reviews

This bike is still very new and therefore it was hard to find a good selection of customer reviews just yet. The one customer review that I did find rated this Recumbent at (4 out of 5 stars).

As I read the details of this review online I saw that this customer had only positive things to say about the GX5 but only gave 4 stars because they had not had the bike long enough to rate the durability accurately. Although, I appreciate this approach, I am not sure if that is really an accurate rating.
