Palmer Park and Crooked Bridge Leg

This is the Palmer Park Shelter on the Virgil Gilman Trail (VGT) where the trail intersects Palmer Ave just southeast of Orchard Road. The trail is very wooded before and after this opening.

This is the crooked and sagging bridge on the Virgil Gilman Trail located between Palmer Park and Barnes Road (near the Splash Country Water Park). The fact that this bridge is sagging and looks like it has seen much better days make it quite unique looking.

Here's a sundial in front of the VGT sign that is right next to the trail and at a small park a little southeast of the bridge over Galena Ave.

I decided to take a closer look at the sundial and I noticed that it said "Fox River Valley Pleasure Driveway and Park District". I actually didn't realize that this was a "Pleasure Driveway"! :-). I also included my feet in the photo for your viewing pleasure.

After my examination of the sundial, I got a shot of Dale coming down the winding path just before the sundial park stone wall (and pleasure driveway). Maybe this is the "Pleasure Path" at this point. :-)

I took this photo of Dale riding off into the woods again as we crossed the bridge that goes over Galena Ave. I have a photo of this bridge a little later in the VGT photo tour.

This is the approach to the large steel bridge that crosses Route 56 near the Aurora West Forest Preserve (just north of Galena Ave). This photo was taken on our way northwest when it was a little cloudy. The following photos of this bridge were from our way back when the sun came out again.
