Unpaved Poplar Creek Trail

As I continued my ride on the Poplar Creek Trail I wanted to try some of the other parts of the trail that I saw on the map. The trails were color coded and the one that I decided to try was the "Orange Trail". I thought that these were going to be more like real bike trails (like crushed stone or even dirt) and not just grass walking paths but apparently I was wrong.

Unpaved Poplar Creek Trail

This is marked as an "unpaved" trail but I think this is just a mowed walking path. Sorry there is not really much to see here. I included my bike in this photo so there is actually something besides for just grass. I'm sure this is OK as a walking path but I don't see much use in it as a bike trail.

Poplar Creek Trail grass paths

There really isn't even much to ride on here and other than the sign it is hard so figure out where to go.

Update: I have been reviewing the captions on my photo pages after the fact and I haven't been out to this trail for a while now so I can't say if this is still a mowed path. If I get a chance to get out here again this summer I will most likely update these pages with the latest status (as well as updating the bike blog on this site).

Poplar Creek Tral at 58 and 59

OK, this is where you cross routes 58 (Golf Road) and 59 (Sutton Road). This is a busy intersection as you might expect but it was not that hard to cross with the traffic signals. The only thing I didn't like (which I've mentioned before about this trail) is the fact that you have to wait to cross at a lot of highways.

PCT at Bode Road

There is where the Poplar Creek Trail leads up to a little parking area at Bode Road just south of the intersection described above.

Back into the woods.

Just after Bode Road you get back into the woods again.

South Western PCT

The photo above show one of the curvy and somewhat wooded parts of the trail on the southern or southwestern part of the Poplar Creek forest preserve.

Ponds by Poplar Creek Trail

There are a few small ponds along the path at this point.
