Shredded branches alongside bike path

A little after I crossed Old Elm Road heading south there were a few sections of the Skokie Valley Bike Trail where shredded branches lined the side of the path. I am not really sure what the purpose was for this.

Shredded branches and Skokie Valley Bike Path

A view of the SV Bike Path with the shredded wood alongside the trail. This is not a trail that I ride a lot so I don't know if this was from trees that were cut down, if there was a reason to put the shredded wood here or if it was just dumped here.

Bike path with cyclone fence and pipes

Another scenic view of the cyclone fence, pipes and industrial materials along the bike path. :-) Sorry, as I mentioned before (and maybe a few times) this is not a real scenic trail. On the other hand it is paved and you can get a decent workout on it.

Greener section of Skokie Valley Bike Path

The SV Bike Path does get a little greener, with some trees and bushes lining the trail, on the southern part of the trail.

Bushes and Powerlines along bike trail

Even though the bike trail gets a little greener here, you still have the high tension lines ever present overhead.

Bridge at end of Skokie Valley Bike Path

The bridge on the right is where the railroad tracks cross County Line (Lake-Cook) road near the end of the bike trial. The bike trail does not cross Lake Cook Road.

Building at end of bike trail

This is the final turn at the southern end of the Skokie Valley Bike Path just before Lake Cook Road.

The "End - Skokie Valley Bike Path" sign. This is the southern end of Highland Park near the Route 94 expressway to Chicago entrance.

You also have the option to ride to the Chicago Botanic Gardens at this point. The Botanic Gardens are about 1 mile east of here. You need to ride along busy Lake Cook Road and cross some very busy intersections but there is a sidewalk the whole way and the Botanic Gardens are very scenic. See the North Branch Trail photo pages for photos of that trail and some from the BG.

Start of Skokie Valley Trail at Lake Cook Road

This is where you get on the Skokie Valley Bike Path heading north from County Line (Lake Cook) Road. This is the southern end of the trail where I turned around and headed back to Lake Bluff.

Here's the photo tour of the Skokie Valley Bike Path from June, 2012.
