NOTE: Although you can still buy some Smooth Fitness products online, this company is no longer in business. Smooth Fitness produced some high quality products but the original owners have closed the business.

We will keep this brand page on Smooth Fitness online and in it's latest format for historical and comparison purposes.

The products found on this page may be available for a limited amount of time but will eventually will no longer be available.

Smooth Fitness, the popular internet based fitness company and award winning maker of quality treadmills and elliptical trainers, now brings you a new line of Fitness Bikes as of September, 2011, with more higher end models on the way.

The new line of Smooth Fitness Stationary Bikes includes all 3 types of fitness bikes (Upright, Recumbent and Indoor Cycles). The Indoor Cycle and the mid-range Upright and Recumbent models are available now and the higher-end models are listed on the SmoothFitness.com site but are not yet available.

Smooth Fitness started as a small chain of retail fitness equipment stores in Philadelphia in 1984. In 1996 Smooth became one of the first companies to sell fitness equipment on the Internet and currently sells only online and direct to the customer.

What this means to you is that since Smooth products are not available through dealers or at large sporting goods stores, they do not have to inflate their prices to match their dealers. This allows Smooth to keep their costs down and to bring you a better product at lower cost.

Smooth Fitness has received numerous awards for their fitness equipment including:

  • Bizrate.com - Ranked "Positive" in all categories of service and product quality.
  • ConsumerGuide.com - "Best Buy" rating
  • Prevention Magazine - "Best Bargain"
  • Epinions.com - Average 4-5 star rating (5 is the highest)
  • About.com - "Top Pick" - budget and mid-range treadmills

Smooth has also received additional awards more specifically related to Treadmills and Elliptical Trainers. Many of the awards above indicate the overall quality of Smooth products and the reputation of the company in general. Smooth Stationary Bikes have just come out, so we have not yet found awards specifically for them. Stay tuned, I'm sure that this is just a matter of time.

Being one of the first fitness companies to sell their products online, Smooth has become a leader in Internet sales, service and fulfillment. That is an important factor when making a costly purchase like a stationary bike.

When buying a stationary bike, you want to consider the entire package, and not just the lowest price. If you have a problem or issue with your bike, you want a company that stands behind their products.

Smooth gives you a Lifetime Warranty on their Frames and Brakes, 3 full years warranty on parts and 1 year on labor. Smooth also give you a Lifetime Warranty on their Indoor Cycle Frame, 3 full years warranty on parts and 2 years on labor.

The warranties backup the products. Customer Service backs up the warranties. Smooth Fitness has received many awards in this category and is known for having an exceptional Customer Service Team.

Smooth Fitness Upright and Recumbent Bikes

Smooth V390 RecumbentThe new Smooth Stationary Bikes have a higher user weight capacity and heavier product weight than most other exercise bikes in their price range. Both of these bikes also have Dual Color Back Lit LCD consoles and Heart Rate Control (HRC) programs.

The Smooth V390 Recumbent is actually more of a Semi-Recumbent which means that you sit in a more upright position than you do on a fully recumbent bike but you still have the comfort of a full recumbent seat with backrest.

Semi-Recumbent Exercise Bikes give you just as much of a workout as a traditional upright bike or fully recumbent bikes but they are easier to mount and dismount.

The Smooth V380 Upright has a wide padded seat, 16 resistance levels, 16 workout programs and a full 300 pound user weight capacity (higher than most residential upright models).

The Smooth V350 Indoor Cycle

Smooth Fitness V350 Spin BikeThe Smooth V350 has everything that you would expect on a traditional Indoor Cycle as well as an LCD Computer Display to monitor your progress an incredible Indoor Cycle Warranty - Lifetime on the frame, 3 full years on parts and 2 years in-home labor.

The Smooth V350 has infinite (friction based) resistance adjustments, multiple seat and handlebar adjustments and the traditional pitchfork or "W" shaped handlebars that you would expect on a traditional Indoor Cycle.

Smooth Fitness Customer Reviews

Smooth Fitness Stationary Bikes are still fairly new (as of January 2013) and therefore, there are very few Customer Reviews currently available online for these products (I have actually spent quite a bit of time researching this). Although there are not a large number of reviews on their bikes they are rated 5 of 5 stars on the Smooth website (could be biased) and 5 of 5 stars on Amazon (from only 1 review though).

If you like the Smooth Fitness Bikes but would really like to see actual customer reviews, my suggestion is simply to see the Customer Reviews on Smooth Treadmills and Elliptical Trainers.

Smooth treadmills and elliptical trainers have been out on the market for many years now and there are plenty of reviews on these products. In addition, elliptical trainers have a lot in common with exercise bikes regarding the components and the overall construction.

Smooth Fitness is consistently rated very high for both their treadmills and their elliptical trainers.

About-Bicycles Brand Review - Smooth Fitness

Smooth Fitness only sells direct and online. Other companies sell direct too, but their prices are inflated in order not to undersell their retail dealers. Although the savings is not anywhere near what Smooth suggests on their site, you do get more for your money with this business model.

If you go to the SmoothFitness.com site you will see some exaggerate promotions that suggest you can save as much as 45%. That is typical marketing hype, however, buying direct can potentially save you between 5%-15%, in addition to the possible sales tax savings from buying online.

I'm not sure why some popular fitness companies (Smooth and Sole Fitness, for example) are just now coming out with fitness bikes. Stationary Bikes have been around forever (definitely much longer than elliptical trainers) and are more compact and more affordable than other home fitness equipment so I am glad to see that they are finally getting on board with these products.

The growth of Smooth Fitness, from their modest beginning in Philadelphia to becoming one of the largest online fitness equipment sellers, can only be attributed to giving customers what they want.
