The Deer Grove Unpaved "Mountain" Bike Trail Photos
Yellow and Black Trail Intersection

Entrance to yellow trail from black trail
The is one of the entrances to the unpaved Yellow Trail, the longest DG West unpaved loop (5.4 miles) just west of the Quentin Road entrance. the Yellow Trail basically goes around the entire Deer Grove West forest preserve. The sign on the right is a "Yield to Horses" sign which is typical for both the paved and unpaved sections.

intersection of black and yellow trails
Although it is shady, you can see the trail marker sign here (on the left), and the opening to Quentin Road in the distance. Keep in mind that these photos are from 2004 and the unpaved trails in Deer Grove have changed quite a bit since then. They are mostly the same trails as before but they are have been widened and better groomed than when these photos were take. I will be keeping these photos posted since they provide a good history of what these trails looked like before.

Deer Grove Yellow Trail
Here's the trail marker at the intersection of the "black" (paved) trail and "yellow" (unpaved) trail. They call this paved section, in DG west, the "black" trail (although there is another unpaved "black" section too)). Although there is a little bit of a stone surface at the beginning of this path, it quickly becomes just a more rugged, mostly dirt path (this is prior to the trail upgrades once again).

Yellow Trail and Forest Preserve Road
After a short trip through some woods, you must cross the Forest Preserve road. There is a map on the sign on the other side. Most people will recognize this from when you first drive into Deer Grove West from Quentin road.

Deer Grove unpaved trails

This is going down the path after the Forest Preserve road. It's a little rocky and rutty here... but that is pretty typical for a lot of the DG unpaved trails (at the time of these photos in 2004). Prior to the trail improvements, you would come across fallen trees and deep ruts and you really pretty much needed a mountain bike for these trails.
