The Deer Grove Unpaved Bike Trail Photos
Scenes from the Orange Trail

The ravine area (now fenced in) off the orange trail in Deer Grove
This is still in the ravine area off of the orange trail (abandoned Forest Preserve road and area). There is what looks to be a home made bridge. It works, but it's a little rough...

Note: The "ravine area" that I have been referring to here is no longer accessible since it was closed to bikes and hikers and fenced in due to erosion. This is a really nice area and I am keeping these photos posted here for historical purposes. I hope they do open this area again once it recovers.

Wooden bridge on Deer Grove trail
OK, we exited the back trails and are actually in the more accessible part of Deer Grove West. This bridge is a little easier :-). This is right by the lake at the bottom of the toboggan and sledding hills (which, btw, are actually a GREAT place to sled in the winter!)

The large lake in Deer Groove Forest Preserve
This is the lake that I am talking about... It is really beautiful on a nice sunny fall day (like the day I went out for these photos).

The Orange Trail or abandoned road
OK, we got back onto the trail system and I got a few photos of the orange, abandoned Forest preserve road, section. I'm not sure if the photos capture the look and feel of this trail. It is a really beautiful wooded area. This photo is looking back (downhill) at the bridge.

Deer Grove Orange trail
This one is looking uphill (orange trail). This is still one of my favorite "trails" in Deer Grove. I actually remember when it was an active forest preserve road. The original road continues to age and become more overgrown each year.

Bottom of hill on orange trail
This is close to the top of that particular hill... When you go a little bit further down this part, you will get to the west entrance to Deer Grove off of Dundee road, almost at Northwest Hwy... The orange trail goes up another hill after the parking lot, but that is the end at the top of the hill...

One little side note, quite a few years ago, when I would go to the top of the hill and the end of the orange trail (there is an old turnaround there), I would occasionally run into a pack of wild deer... (OK, maybe they don't call them "packs" and I believe almost all deer are wild... but it was still kind of cool... :-) )
