Drop Down Handlebar Training Bike

The Livestrong S-Series LS Indoor Cycle is top of the line indoor cycle in the Livestrong by Matrix commercial line. Although this indoor cycle has been designed for commercial use (health clubs, fitness cycling classes, etc.), you can also purchase this bike, for individual use online.

Two of the most important features of this bike are the drop down handlebars and that the purchase of any Livestrong bike, including the commercial line Indoor Cycles, will ensure ensure a contribution to the LIVESTRONG® Foundation for the fight against cancer.

I met with the manager for Livestrong commercial fitness equipment recently on my visit to the Johnson Fitness headquarters in Madison Wisconsin (the maker of Livestrong fitness equipment) and was able to review the Livestrong S-Series LS in detail and to compare the two commercial line Livestrong indoor cycles.

This Indoor Cycle starts with all of the features that you expect on any Livestrong bike such as the commercial grade frame, 40lb flywheel, low maintenance Kevlar drive belt and cantilevered braking system.

Next, you get the Livestrong commercial line features including the stronger warranties, heavy duty components, stainless steel protection plates, high gloss platinum, steel frame with zinc oxide coating and polyester powder coating, dual SPD pedal and with cage, and more durable components overall.

Finally, you get the upgrades to the E-Series base model which includes the drop down handlebar feature, the console (the E-Series does not come with one) and some differences in the actual components of the bikes (such as additional bearings in the bottom bracket).

Livestrong Dropdown Handlebars

One of the key features of this bike that should be noted (although it is pretty obvious when you see the bike) is the drop down handlebars. This option is not currently available on any other Indoor Cycle on the market (other than the limited edition Livestrong LS28IC, which is made from the same mold as this bike but is a limited edition bike).

The drop down handlebars give you a more realistic road bike position and ride. Obviously wind resistance is not a concern on an Indoor Cycle but having the options to switch positions during your workout and to ride in the same positions as you would ride outdoors is an important factor for indoor training.
