Bike Roundabout in Madison, Wisconsin

Here is the Bike Roundabout, multi-trail intersection that the Military Ridge Trail (MRT) goes to in Madison, Wisconsin. Note: This could be Fitchburg, Wi since this is right at the border of these 2 towns.

Bike intersection sign for 5 bike trails *

Here's a close-up of the trail signs at the bike roundabout. This is crazy if you are not sure where you want to go but it is really cool that you have so many options at this place where 5 different bike trails come together!

The Military Ridge Trail in Firchburg

This is the paved part of the MRT as we headed southeast from the bike roundabout to Verona. The trail is flat and in great condition here.

The paved part of the MR Trail

Continuing southwest on the MRT the trail is lined with trees and still in great condition. This is a nice, easy paved trail ride.

Military Ridge Trail tunnel

Here's a tunnel where the MRT goes under a road. For reference, I believe that this is Sprocket Drive

Military Ridge Bike Trail over McKee Road

This is the bridge over McKee Road. McKee Road is a busy road and this is a fairly long bridge. It is great that the towns and counties that support this bike path have made it such a bike friendly area. This bike trail goes over or under the busiest roads in this area.

Recumbent Rider on Military Ridge Trail

Here's a recumbent rider on the Military Ridge Trail. OK, it's Dale, the friend that I ride with and that contributes some of the best trail photos on this site.

Crushed Stone part of Military Ridge Trail

Verona is where the MRT changes from a paved trail to a crushed stone trail. We only rode a few miles on this part of the trail since the trail was flooded pretty badly at one of the tunnels under a highway. This was in late June of 2018 after a lot of storms. Hopefully, the floods do not happen a lot on this trail.

Ice Age Junction Trail sign

Back where we parked in Verona there is a sign for the Ice Age Trail where it connects to the Military Ridge Trail, The sign says "Ice Age Junction Trail, Est 2010, Dane County Parks".

Beginning of Ice Age Trail

This is the beginning of the Ice Age Trail section where it meets the MRT. We took this trail under the highway but only rode it a very short distance. It looks like it has potential for a nice ride and is one more bike trail option in this area.

In summary, Nadison and Fitchburg, Wisconsin have a lot of great bike trails!

Military Ridge Trail Photo Tour

Here's the photo tour of the Military Ridge Trail with plenty of first hand riding details. This ride was from June, 2018.
