Marcy ME-709 Recumbent Mag Cycle Review

What you get with the Marcy ME709 Recumbent Exercise Bike (aka Marcy Recumbent Mag Cycle) is a low cost, entry-level Recumbent Fitness Bike with the most basic features and very few of the extra features that you get on more expensive models. Marcy ME709 Recumbent Bike

Marcy keeps the cost down on their Stationary Bikes more so by excluding extra features and options rather than by using inferior parts and components.

This gives Marcy an advantage in quality over some of the other low-end Stationary Bikes, however they are still budget models that should be considered for limited or light use or if you are on a very tight budget only.

Note: The Marcy Recumbent Mag Cycle (which is what Amazon calls the Marcy ME-709) is selling for $139 (new) with free shipping options at Amazon. Go to Marcy Recumbent Mag Cycle for the latest price and reviews and comparisons or to get this bike online at the lowest cost. *

Marcy ME-709 Recumbent Pros and Cons

Although the Marcy ME-709 Recumbent has a 300lb user capacity (according to the owners manual and specs), this bike weighs only 67lbs (approx.) and I do not believe that this bike would be very stable or hold up well for heavier users or anyone that is close to the 300lb limit.

If you would like to monitor your heart rate while working out on your bike, this is one of the features that is not available on the Marcy ME-709. Although this exercise cycle does not come with a heart rate monitor, you can, of course, buy an independent HR monitor seperately if you choose.

The Marcy ME709 is powered by batteries only (2 AA batteries). There is no AC power option on this bike which is one of the reasons that we recommend this bike for light or limited use only.

It can be difficult to find a decent warranty (or in some cases any warranty at all) on very low budget stationary bikes and fitness equipment. Most of Marcy's Stationary Bikes, including the Marcy ME-709 Recumbent, come with a 2 year warranty on the frame. This is actually not too bad for an exercise bike in this price range.

About-Bicycles Review

If you have read other fitness bike reviews on this website then you know that I do not usually recommend low-end or cheap models. You will generally get what you pay for, the bikes will not stand up to much more than very light use and often will not last very long.

This remains true for the Marcy ME-709 Recumbent although Marcy Exercise Bikes are at least a step up in quality from many other low-end models.

For anything more than very light and limited use, you ought to check into the Schwinn Recumbents (excluding the Schwinn A20).

Customer Reviews

Although the average ratings of customer reviews can, at times, be misleading, Marcy Stationary Bikes usually rate a little higher (and a little more consistent) than the reviews of other budget brands.

At the time of this review, the average Customer Review at Amazon was 4 of 5 stars(4 of 5 stars). Some of the common statements and helpful comments include:

"So far the bike has been everything I expected. It's easy to set up and easy to use. It's very quiet and it came to me as advertised. Very fast shipping".

"For the price it is amazing. I was afraid of a much more inferior procuct but sometimes life suprises you...".

The above reviews were both 4 of 5 stars. For another point of view, the quote below was from a 1 out of 5 star review:

"Do NOT buy this bike, you get what you pay for".

In the end it is up to you to make the best decision based on the facts that you have available to you, of course (and I hope that the information presented here can help you with your decision).
