Fox River Trail North Photos
From Town of Dundee North to Otto Engineering

This is the Dairy Queen on Main St. (route 72) in Dundee right next to the river and right on the Bike Trail. It's hard to miss this when you drive through Dundee and it is a very popular stop for cyclists (as you might imagine). We usually start our trip about a block north of the Dairy Queen by the Fox River in East Dundee Illinois...

I believe that this is a visitor center in East Dundee. This is actually where I have started many of my Fox River Trail and Prairie Trail rides heading north. Dundee is a small town and you can usually find plenty of free parking in this area.

I have ridden this route many times either by myself or with my family. Even when my kids were very young (like 13 and 10) we took this trail (and the connecting McHenry County Prairie Trail) all the way to Wisconsin! On one ride my kids wrote "Wisconsin or Bust!" on some tape that they stuck to their t-shirts :-).

As you head north on the FRT you first pass through some neighborhoods in East Dundee. There are a few small streets to cross in this area and at least one semi-busy street to cross. The photo above is a typical trail scene going through the subdivisions in East Dundee

There is a park along the trail (on the left here) that is sponsored by Otto Engineering. This company basically makes switches and communication gear and is one of the town's largest employers. I had read an article recently on how the president of Otto Engineering is leading a fight against foreclosures in the neighboring town of Carpentersville. The park can be a nice place for a break (and now you know a little about the company too).

There is a really old scenic bridge across the river here (by the Otto Engineering building). The last time I was there though it was in pretty bad shape and starting to fall apart.
