Western Trail Head of North Shore Bike Path

This is the start of the North Shore Bike Path at the western end near Carmel Catholic High School. This is just off of Brice Ave near E. Hawley St. in Mundelein.

You can take this trail from here, in Mundelein, all the way to the Green Bay and Robert McClory Trails near Lake Michigan.

Crushed Stone Bike Path intersection

This is a little further down the trail where it intersects with another one of the local trails that winds through the neighborhoods (on the right in the photo above).

This entire trail runs parallel to Route 176 but the nice thing about this part of the trail is that it is a little further from the road and has trees and bushes on both sides.

Paved section of NS Bike Path

A little further east on the NS Bike Path you go by an area with some larger trees and some apartments or condos on the left. Most of the trail is crushed stone although there are a few sections, like the one above where it is paved.

The trail crosses a number of smaller side streets and a few busy roads, like Milwaukee Ave. . The trail takes you out to the traffic lights on the busier roads where you can cross with the signals.

NS Bike Path near residential area.

Still heading east towards the Des Plaines River this part of the trail winds through a fenced in residential area on the right.

Just after you pass a Culvers restaurant on the left and an industrial lot on the right you get to the bridge over the Des Plaines River.

Bike Trail Intersection and Des Plaines River

The photo above shows the Des Plaines River and the intersection of the Des Plaines River Trail ~ DPRT ~ and the North Shore Bike Path as you cross the Des Plaines River.

DPRT as seen from bridge

This photo is looking down at the DPRT from the bridge over the river ~ at Route 176 ~ from the North Shore Bike Path.

North Shore Bike Path heading east from DPRT

When you take the North Shore Bike Path exit from the DPRT just before the Route 176 underpass, you come up to the intersection above. This part of the trail continues east and runs parallel to Route 176 to Lake Bluff.

See the following photo section ~ From the Old School Trail pics1 ~ to continue the photo tour east to Lake Bluff.
