concrete steps that lead out into Lake Michigan

These are the concrete steps that lead out into Lake Michigan. The bike path is to the right. I love seeing the skyline as you start to get closer to the downtown area.

Some typical bike path and Chicago skyline views from the lakefront path. This is always a popular place to visit for Chicagoans and visitors.

Cyclists and joggers on the Chicago Lakefront Trail

Cyclists and joggers on the Chicago Lakefront Trail. I actually stopped and setup this photo from the side of the bike path. I used to take most of my photo while riding, which can be convenient sometimes but you do not usually get as good of photos. On this ride I wanted to get photos and video so I did the photos on the ride south and the video on the way back north. See the main Chicago Lakefront Trail page (or the link in the right column on this page for a link to the video.

Coming into North Avenue Beach

This photo is as I was coming into North Avenue Beach (and probably taken while I was riding). North Avenue Beach is one of the largest and most popular beachs in Chicago.

the concession stand at North Avenue Beach

Here's the concession stand at North Avenue Beach. I noticed that they have bike rentals here. I always have my own bike when riding this trail but if you are from out of town or just don't have a bike, this is one place where you can rent them. Actually, if you plan to rent a bike for the Lakefront Path, I would suggest doing an internet search ahead of time. There are quite a few places to rent them so you may want to shop around a little.

view of the city from this part of the lakeshore path

Here's a pretty typical view of the city from this part of the lakeshore path. The tallest building ahead to the left is the John Hancock Building and is a great place to have lunch on a clear day. There is no fee (at this time anyway) to take the elevator up to the 95th floor (basically the top of the building) where the Signature Room (restaurant) is located and the prices for lunch are very reasonable (dinner is much more expensive). We have had lunch in the Signature Room quite a few times and I always found it fun to locate the Lakefront Path from way up there too!

The John Hancock Building from the Lakefront Bike Path

I probably should have had a slightly higher profile in this photo to include the two distinctive antennas on the top of the John Hancock Building (ahead on the left).

Here's a photo tour of the Chicago Lakefront Bike Path, from the north end of the trail, at Hollywood Avenue (just north of Lincoln Park) south to the end of the trail and back.
