The Chicago Lakefront Trail
Soldier Field to Museum of Science and Industry

Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears!

Towards the southern end of Museum Campus, on the Lakefront Trail, you pass by famous Soldier Field, home of the Chicago Bears (aka da Bears) ! This was another good candidate for the panoramic ("stitched") photo technique.

memorial monument just across from Soldier Field

This is a nice looking memorial monument just across from Soldier Field. If you look at the blowup version of this photo you can see that the monument has an interesting look with the water spraying effect.

coming up to McCormick Place

This is as you come up to McCormick Place convention center and bird sanctuary along the Lakefront Trail. You are away from all the traffic and congestion here but this is actually where the Stevenson Expressway (route 55) branches off into Lake Shore Drive.

view of Lake Michigan as you go by McCormick Place

Here's a view of Lake Michigan as you go by McCormick Place. I believe that this is also the McCormick Place bird sanctuary. I saw signs for this but I actually did not know exactly what it is about.

decorative waterfall

I thought that this decorative waterfall, to the right of the bike path was pretty cool looking (although I must admit that the photo does not really capture it very well).

The lakefront path as you continue south

The lakefront path opens up a little here and is a little less congested as you continue south. We have passed through the busy downtown area now and through Museum Campus and are pretty much on the near south side.

view of the Museum of Science and Industry as seen from the Chicago Lakefront Trial

This is a view of the Museum of Science and Industry as seen from the Lakefront Trial. This museum is on the other side (west side) of Lake Shore Drive and I also remember that this was the southern turnaround point for the "Bike The Drive" ride that I took in May.

For those who are not familiar with this event, They close down 30 miles of Lake Shore Drive to automotive traffic for this event (usually in the early morning on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend). Lake Shore Drive is then open only to bike riders for about 5 hours.

Here's a photo tour of the Chicago Lakefront Bike Path, from the north end of the trail, at Hollywood Avenue (just north of Lincoln Park) south to the end of the trail and back.
