Green Bay and Robert McClory Bike Trail Photos

the Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, Illinois.

Here's the Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, Illinois. This is the northern end of our trip and where we turned around (heading back south). We actually parked in Highwood and rode north to the Great Lakes Naval Station (just south of North Chicago) before heading south to Glencoe.

This is actually Lake County and the trail is called the Robert McClory Trail at this point. This photo tour includes the southern end of the RMT (starting here) and the entire Green Bay Trail north to south.

You pass through some more wooded areas

You pass through some nice fairly flat wooded areas on this part of the trail. The trail actually runs parallel to Sheridan Road at this point. Although these original photos (from the northern end of the trail) are from early spring, you don't even realize that you are next to Sheridan Road in some places (and it is even less noticeable in the summer months when the trees have all their leaves).

Here's the first sign for the Robert McClory Bike Path (in Lake Bluff).

Here's the first sign (looking back north) for the Robert McClory Bike Path (in Lake Bluff).

A straight and flat stretch on the southern end of the Robert McClorey Bike Path with Sheridan Road visible on the right in this section. Sorry if the perspective is confusing. Even though these photos are in order from north to south, I took these original photos as I was riding north so you see Sheridan Road on the right. The trail is actually on the west side of Sheridan Road at this point.

This overpass is just past the North Shore Bike path intersection.

This overpass where the (east-west) North Shore Bike path intersects with the (north-south) Robert McClorey Bike Path. The North Shore Bike Path mostly runs parallel to Route 176 and is not all that scenic but it is an excellent east/west connection to other north/south trails.

For example, you can take the NSBP all the way to the Des Plaines River Trail near Libertyville. Although I have ridden the NSBP to the DPRT, I have not taken it further west from that point and I know that it continues west to or through Mundelein and may even connect with the Millennium Trail. You can find info and photos on all the bike trails that I referenced above here on this website.
