Geneva Spur back to Fox River Trail

Trains as seen from bike path  *
Here's a cool view looking down on the trains and the railroad tracks running off into the distance from one of the bridges that we crossed on the Geneva Spur of the Illinois Prairie Path as we continued our ride west back to the Fox River Trail.

Bridge before dead mans curve on bike path *
This bridge is just before the cemetery that the Illinois Prairie Path goes through just before "Dead Mans Curve"!!! The part that goes through the cemetery is in a nicely wooded area.

Cemetery along Illinois Bike Path
The IPP, Geneva Spur as it winds through the Oak Hill Cemetery near Route 25 (Bennett Street at this point). This is really just before the Illinois Prairie Path connects to the Fox River Trail once again in Geneva.

Winding bridge on IPP
... and, as promised... "Dead Mans Curve"! You really do have to take it easy as you come up to this contraption... We called it Dead Mans Curve, because it is just past the cemetery, but it could have another meaning if you don't take it easy here!

Switch back bridge on bike path*
This thing has switchbacks where you completely change directions in the space of a stairway. Fortunately it was dry when we rode on this structure (actually I'm not sure what you would call it). I'm sure that the wooden surface gets slippery when it's wet.

I don't recall seeing any big warning or caution signs which is kind of surprising since most of the trails in this area have big caution signs for any minor variations, obstructions or things that you would need to watch out for.

Fox River Trail and IPP intersection
Here's where we started our trip on the Fox River Trail, in Geneva, after connecting from the Illinois Prairie Path Geneva Spur.

This is also where I started the 100 mile trip, from Geneva Il to Genoa Wis and back with my son in June, 2007. We started here in Geneva because I calculated that it would be about 100 miles from here to Wisconsin and back. We took the Fox River Trail north to Algonquin where it connects to the McHenry Prairie Trail that goes all the way to Wisconsin. That was quite a ride and we ran out of daylight at the end of the ride too. But we accomplished our goal!
