The 400 State Trail Photos
Union Center to Elroy

Fall color pods along the trail*

There were plenty of beautiful fall colors and some fluffy white pods along the trail as we continued our October ride out of Union Center towards Elroy. The 400 Trail heads almost straight north at this point.

Fall colors in the distance alon the 400 State Trail*

There were some nice fall colors off in the distance on this part of our ride too. In retrospect this type of photo may have been a good candidate for the panoramic effect that I get with my photo stitching software.

Welcome to elroy sign

Here is the "Welcome to Elroy" sign as you come into Elroy on the 400 State Trail. I was out by the highway when I took this photo and the trail is off to the right. You can see Dale on his recumbent bike on the trail off to the right (near the center) of the photo above.

Coming into Elroy visitor center

The photo above is from the 400 State Trail as you come into the visitor center, rest area and trail head in the town of Elroy, Wisconsin.

Rows of streetlights alon the 400 State Trail

There is a row of old fashioned street lights in Elroy as we rode into the visitor center area.

Visitor Center and Trail Head in Elroy

Elroy is the intersection of the Elroy-Sparta trail (which goes northwest to Sparta from here) and the 400 State Trail (which goes southeast to Reedsburg from here).

The Elroy Sparta Trail is about 10 miles longer (one way) than the 400 State Trail. So you could actually do a 100 mile ride (century ride actually a little over 100) if you rode from Reedsburg to Sparta and back on these 2 trails! This would probably be difficult since these are crushed stone trails. I have ridden over 100 miles in a day on mostly paved trails but never on crushed stone. I wouldn't be surprised though it other people have done that ride.

Intercetion of the Elroy-Sparta Trail and the 400 State Trail

The crooked sign above, which I snapped while riding by, describes the trail intersection well. If the sign is completely accurate then this is right at the intersection of the 2 trails.

Here's the photo tour of the 400 State Trail Bike trail from October, 2011.
