Sunset Trail West Shore

We started our ride on the Sunset Trail in Peninsula State Park (Door County) at the southern end of the trail near the park entrance. This part of the trail is very wooded.
After winding through the park a little ways you go out towards the west shore of the peninsula where you can see the lake in places. This is the waters of Lake Michigan although technically the large body of water to the west of Door County is Green Bay. This then gets divided into smaller bays with different names.
After seeing the lake off to the left for a while, the trail goes back away from the lake and into the woods again. The entire trail is very curvy and has some steep hills in places.
There are a number of places along the trail where you can get out to the shore. Dale took this photo with the driftwood at one of these locations.

Back on to the trail and into another wooded part of the trail for this HDR photo of the trail. At this time of year (June) the trail is lined with purple flowers in some places as you can see to the left in the photo.
There were a few places where the trail was right next to the shore and there were benches if you wanted to take a break and enjoy the view.
I took this panoramic photo in a place where you could see a little of the lake to the left and a more open wooded area on the right. This is near the shore west of Tennison Bay Campground,

The Door County Sunset Photos
Door County has some beautiful sunsets in this area. Although these sunset photos were not taken from the "Sunset Trail", they were taken in the same area in Fish Creek, just south of the park and Ephriam Bay just north of the park. Dale Kiffel took these excellent sunset pics in this area and I just had to include them in this article.
