Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail
Passing Through Norwalk, Wisconsin

The Elroy Sparta Trail coming into the colorful town of Norwalk, Wisconsin. Norwalk is a little less than half way (between Sparta and Elroy) and the last town before you reach tunnel #2.

A nice little opening with a park and places for a break in the town of Norwalk.

This is the view from the trail as you come into the Norwalk Village Park from the Elroy Sparta Trail. The park has benches for a break and there are some shops in town for supplies and/or snacks. I stopped for a little snack when I passed through Norwalk.

A street view of Norwalk, Wisconsin. This is actually a very small town (even for this part of Wisconsin) but it is a town (and a town with a lot of character). Although the Elroy Sparta trail itself is fairly flat (which makes sense since it was created from the old railroad bed) you can see the rolling hills in this area in the background of this photo. I'm sure that the hills in this part of Wisconsin are the reason that they ran the original railway through the tunnels that we now use for the bike trail. This really is a scenic area (even though you may not be able tell from the photos here).

For example take a look at Diamond Lils in Norwalk. I didn't go into this place but it sure is interesting looking from the outside! I think it's just a bar (or Saloon as the sign says). So I guess if you feel like you've been out on a long trail ride heardin cattle or something you can stop in here fer some "red eye". OK, well maybe that's not such a good idea for cyclists.

Here's another one of the wooden bridges, and a view of one of the highway underpasses in the distance, as you get back on the Elroy Sparta trail. This is just outside (east of) Norwalk.
