Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail
Through Wilton Wisconsin

Wilton, Wisconsin.
Near the center of the Elroy-Sparta trail, between tunnels #1 and #2. Parking, trail passes and access to the trail is available from here.

The path that goes off to the right here is the Elroy Sparta Trail as is passes through the town of Wilton. Although Wilton is a very small town it is another oasis along the trail where you can stop for various things or just for a break if you prefer something a little more civilized then just pulling over on the side of the trail in the woods somewhere.

Wilton is actually a little closer to Elroy at the east end of the trail. I shouldn't actually use the term "end of the trail" because you can still continue on east from Elroy on the 400 State Trail.

Some typical scenery for this part of the trail. The trail is very straight here (at least in the photo above) and surrounded by trees. Ahead you can see another one of the wooden bridges that the trail passes over.

Here's a better view of one of the wooden bridges along this part of the trail. The bridges are pretty old but are in good shape (at least they were at the time of this ride). There are also some iron sided bridges along the trail which really give you more of a feel for the old railway system that this trail was made from.

This is actually one of the longer wooden bridges on the trail. I don't remember exactly what we were passing over on this particular bridge but it is typically ravines and/or streams.

As you can see the trail is still very straight at this point in the photo above. There was a nice canopy of trees here which provide some nice shade. There are both open stretches and wooded stretches on this trail so you get a nice variety of scenery.
