Elroy-Sparta Trail
Tunnel #2 and Mossy Rock Walls

Mist by tunnel #2 on Elroy Sparta Trail

Looking back at the mist coming out of tunnel #2 on this hot summer day. The tunnels on the Elroy Sparta trail give you a nice break from the heat if you ride the trail on a hot day. On this day you could clearly see the mist coming out of the tunnel as I looked back at this tunnel (see the previous page (#7) in this photo tour for more photos and info on tunnel #2).

Wilton Wisconsin, ES Trail

Wilton, Wisconsin.
You can park (pay the trail pass fee) and enter the trail here if you choose. This is more of a central location of the trail, and is an easy 2 miles to tunnel #2 from here if you choose to head west from here towards Sparta). You could also head east from here (towards Elroy) as I did for this trip.

It can be difficult to ride the entire Elroy Sparta Trail in one day if you do not have a pickup or ride and the end of your bike ride and need to do a round trip (since the trail is 32 miles and both ways would then be 64 miles). Getting on the trail in Wilton gives you the option to go to Sparta and back on the first day and to Elroy and back the next (or course there are many different ways to experience this trail).

Train car on disaply by the trail

An old train car on display just off the Elroy Sparta trail.

A view of the trail from my bike!

OK, I just had to include one of my own typical views... :-). In the process of editing and updating the content on these pages (some time after the fact) I see that this view includes my old bike and really old bike computer. The bike computer above is my old Vetta computer which served me very well for many years.

I upgraded to a newer Vetta model some years back now (which still works) then eventually upgraded to my GPS based bike computer, which I currently use. Although the bike computer above was inexpensive and reliable (and one of the early bike computers) I just can't see riding without my GPS based computer anymore (it's so easy to get spoiled with new bike technoplogy).

Mossy green rock walls along the ES Bike Trail

Some typical scenery for this part of the trail... There are some nice mossy green rock walls on the left, but it is hard to make out in the photo...
