Back to the fork (purple - right, red, left). Going left this time...

OK, after taking the purple path to the south end, at Alexian Brothers hospital, then taking the leg that goes out to the Elk Grove Community Bridge (over Interstate 290/355 (see photo pages 8 and 9 for more on these sections) I am about to get back on to the main loop around Busse Woods (the red trail).  Just for perspective here we are back at where the purple and red path meet. Now I will be taking the rest of the red loop back to the Elk herd where I started.

Back on the Busse Woods trail - red loop.

Although I have ridden around most of Busse Wood on this ride (before this photo), this part of the trail is also easily accessible from the forest preserve entrance off of Beisner Road (by Alexian Brothers hospital) and there is plenty of parking in this section. For reference, this is Grove #32.

Beautiful fall colors on the Busse Woods bike path

I came across this beautiful tree along side the bike path here in it's peak fall colors... this really is a nice ride in the fall. Not all the trees were at there peak color but this one was incredibly bright and colorful in the early evening light, close to sunset.

The sun is low now on the Busse Woods trail

The sun is getting a little lower now as I am coming up to one of the last bridges on this particular ride. I actually did not leave much room for exploring before I ran out of daylight.

One of the last bridges on this trip.

Here's the bridge just before Groves 26 and 27. These are the groves that are accessible from Arlington Heights Road just south of Landmeier Road. The shadows are getting very long now and I should have gotten out into the sun a little more for this shot. This particular bridge is ahead and a little to the right and you can probably see it better in the blowup version of this photo.

Just past the bridge on the Busse Woods trail

Just past the bridge there is a nice little wooded part of the trail that leads to the parking lots for Groves 26 and 27. The trail is nice and wide here and although it is wooded, it has a very open feel to it (since the woods are set back from the trail so much here).
