Busse Woods Trail - Photos 3
Red Trail along Higgins to Black Trail North

Perspective... Route 53/290 comming up...

Just to give you a little perspective of where we are... you can see the signs (on Higgins) as you approach routes 53 and 290. So even though you are tucked away in the woods or by the lake as you ride the trail you are never really all that far from "civilization".

Bike Path mile marker 6

Here's mile marker 6 back into the woods again (using my mile marker photo technique again). This is a fairly straight section of the trail at this point with a light covering of leaves this time of year.

Nature meets the suburban sprawl...

I just thought it was interesting that you have the combination of woods, meadows, streams and lakes surrounded by these large suburban buildings and shopping centers, etc. Up ahead just to the left you can see one of the large buildings just off of route 53 by Woodfield. Sorry, I don't know the exact name of that particular building.

Nature wins!

OK, back to nature again with the late fall weeds in the foreground and a small lake way off in the distance. This part of the trail (north of Higgins (route 72)) has some small lakes but the nicer, bigger lakes are really on the other side of Higgins (which you will see further along here in the bike trail photo tour).

Black path to the right, red path to the left...

Here is where the path splits off to the north (right - the black trail) and goes along Route 53 and then along side route 58 (Golf Road) and to the south mostly (left - the red trail loop), and crosses route 72. I took the black trail (north or right) first...

****** UPDATE *****

NOTE: The photo above was taken in 2005 before the NEW BRIDGE on the west side of the trail was in place (in 2013). I am leaving the original photos to show how it looked in the past and am including a new photo page ~ Busse Woods New Bridge Photos ~ to show how it looks now (see the link between Photo Pages 5 & 6 below).

The Busse Woods bike trail black path...

Here's where the black trail (going north at this point) comes out of the woods and into the open fields. Once you get past the opening in the woods up ahead you can clearly see the busy route 53/355 expressway (on the left in this situation) with the nature preserve areas on the left.
