Purple Path to Alexian Brothers Hospital

Purple path - right, Red loop left.

OK, this is just past the bridge where the purple path branches off to the right (which is the direction that I took first) and goes to the Elk Grove community bridge (that crosses route 355) and goes along Beisner road to Alexian Brothers hospital and branches off to the left to continue the red trail loop back to the Elk Herd (where I started my ride).

The purple path on the Busse Woods trail

I took the Purple Branch of the trail, show here, first. This part of the trail heads mostly south. You can go right out to a cement landing on the lake off to the right here....

Lake view off the purple Busse Woods bike trail.

You get another nice view of the other side of the lake, know as the South Pool, on this section. There are some picnic tables here and the scenic views make a nice place to take a break.

Going along Beisner - the Busse Woods trail

This is where you are going parallel to Beisner road. There is a residential subdivision on the left and more of the forest preserve on the right. This view is as you ride south towards to Alexian Brothers hospital.

The Elk Grove Community Bridge sign.

I went past this leg first (to the end of the trail (pretty much anyway), then came back to do the Elk Grove Community Bridge. The leg that goes out to the bridge is not all that exciting but I think the view from the bridge is pretty awesome. This bridge crosses the 8 lane Interstate 290 (aka route 53 or route 355) so this isn't just some small bike path bridge over a little stream or something. This is a major structure crossing a very busy interstate highway. The incline to get to the top of the bridge is pretty steep too. There are some photos taken from the bridge if you continue on to the next photo page in this set (photo page 9).

End of the Busse Woods bike trail at Biesterfield...

Continuing on the purple path though you eventually come to where the path ends at Alexian Brothers... (at Beisner and Biesterfield roads). Alexian Brothers is the sponsor of the professional and very popular Tour of Elk Grove which I attended last year.
