Fox River Trail South Photos
Through St. Charles

This sign is in downtown St. Charles where you cross North Avenue. There are signs that direct you through St. Charles but there is actually a break in the trail itself and you ride on sidewalks or on residential roads through St. Charles. Although this is a small break in the trail you need to watch for the signs to get back on the regular trail again.



You go by a park down by the river and you need to know where to go when it ends... You go up a very steep hill to 3rd Ave then Follow 3rd north until it hits the regular FRT trail again. Once again there are signs that direct you back to the regular trail again but it can be helpful to know that you need to follow these roads to get there.



I took State Ave up to 3rd Ave on this ride (State Ave is the road with the very steep hill) but you can also take Cedar Ave up to 3rd Ave. Once you're on 3rd Ave you continue north (like the river even though you are a little bit away from the river at this point).



Follow 3rd Avenue through the neighborhoods and follow the signs. You can see the green Bike Route sign on the right in the photo above.




Here's where you get get off the side streets and back on to the regular Fox River Trail again at Morris Woods Nature Preserve just north of St Charles. The trail is on the left and heads back out to the river again here.



There are some pretty steep hills in this section and there is a very steep downhill section here where you get back on to the trail again. The sign says to walk bikes... well, I would say just take it real easy and keep a hand by the brake.
