Fox River Trail
Grand Victoria Riverboat, Elgin

This is coming into Elgin from the south on the Fox River Bike Trail as we rode from Geneva to Dundee. OK, this little section here is not one of my favorite parts of the trail (this is south of Elgin). The ride is much nicer once you hit the Riverboat area.

Here's the Grand Victoria Riverboat in Elgin. This is a big gambling area and it looks like they sunk some money into improving the area around the riverboat.

This is a the tunnel that passes under the entrance to the Grand Victoria Riverboat. This area is well maintained and has some nice landscaping too.

I love the way this tunnel looks as you ride through it. This is passing under the entrance to the riverboat.

There are some nice brick walkways and a large park (Festival Park) along the river here in Elgin just to the north the riverboat casino area. I'm not sure if the brick walkways are actually considered part of the Fox River Trail or if the trail is the concrete path closer to the river. I like to think of it as the brick walkway but either way this is a nice (and different) part of the trail.

I believe that this is called the Walton Islands... There's a little bridge that crosses over to the other side here and there's a park area on the small islands in the Fox River.

You stay close to the river here as you pass through Elgin on the FRT. You will pass by a few large buildings on the right before you get to the dam, as you will see on the next photo page (#9) before you have to cross some busy streets in Elgin. Once you get through the town though you'll be back on the trail and into the woods once again.
