Fox River Trail South Photos
The Long Bridges

This is the first long bridge over the Fox River, just south of South Elgin, and after passing Tekawitha Preserve on my way north. If you hit these bridges after you have some speed built up you make quite a noise from the wooden planks and if there are people on the bridges, they will usually know that you are coming (but be careful)!



The bridge views are also very nice if you slow down and enjoy the views (as I did to stop and take these pictures...). There is a bend in the Fox River at this point so it actually goes east and west for a short distance here.



This is looking over the right side of the first bridge (as I headed north).



This is the second bridge (near South Elgin going North). I have never explored off the main trail here but I believe that the section of trail that is between the 2 bridges in this section is actually a very small island in the Fox River.

This is another view of the Fox River Trail as I was passing over the two bridges just south of South Elgin. Originally I thought that this was the second bridge (as you head north) but I can't say for sure.




Just after crossing the two bridges above, and before the new Sterns Road bridge, you pass by a section of railroad tracks on the left again at this point. This whole section of the trail was closed for a few seasons (2009-2011) as they worked on the new bridge at Stearns Road so even though this little section by the tracks may not be overly scenic is sure beats having to head out to Route 31 to get back on the trail after South Elgin. Route 31 is actually just east of here (to the left) and not very far away.
