Big Bend Lake to Euclid

DPRT before Big Bend Lake

Passing under a low hanging branch as we get back on to the Des Plaines River Trail and into the woods again just before Big Bend Lake.

Des Plaines River Trail next to Bender Road

This is where the DPRT runs next to Bender Road coming into Big Bend Lake and the Forest Preserve.  This is just south of Golf Road.

This is Dale (another on of the about-bicycles trail photographers) on his recumbent while some photos were taking him at Big Bend Lake!

DPRT as it runs next to Golf Road

Just past Big Bend Lake, on the DPRT southern section, you cross Golf Road (at the intersection of Golf and Bender Roads). This is where the trail runs next to Golf Road for a short distance.

DPRT just before train track crossing

Passing through the woods on the crushed stone Des Plaines River Trail just before the railroad tracks crossing.

Train Track crossing on Des Plaines River Trail

This is where the Des Plaines River Trail crosses the train tracks just north of Golf Road. This is not the kind of crossing that you can ride over. There are no signals here but you are forced to stop anyway because you will need to carry your bike over the tracks.

Train and Train Crossing on DPRT *

Earlier in the day we came to the train tracks just as a huge freight train was crossing our path. I tried to get some close up shots of the train as it passed by. I survived but the photos weren't that great.

DPR Trail just north of Central Road

Back on the DPR Trail again and into the woods (just north of Central Road). There was a picnic table off to the right here. It was actually chained to the tree. I'm not sure why that was necessary.

Walkers and riders on the DPR Trail

The Des Plaines River Trail is one of the least crowded trails in this area. This was one of the few times that I saw more than one or two groups of people on the trail all at once.

Deer as seen from the Des Plaines River Trail*

It is not at all uncommon to see deer along the Des Plaines River Trail. This guy was with a group of three. I rode ahead and missed them but Dale caught this wildlife shot.

DPRT Just south of Euclid Ave

This is as the DPRT passes through the woods just before reaching the forest preserve where Euclid Avenue passes over the Des Plaines River.
