Des Plaines River Bike Trail Photos
Heading North to North Shore Path

Open areas on the Des Plaines River Trail

Still heading north, out of Half Day, on the Des Plaines River Trail we pass out of the woods and through some more open areas.

Canopy of Trees on DPRT

...and back into the canopy of trees again!

The wooded areas on this trail are some of my favorite places to ride on hot, sunny summer days. I believe that this section (above) is in the MacArthur Woods Forest Preserve.

DPRT underpass at St Marys Road

The tunnel above is one of the places where the Des Plaines River Trail crosses (in this case goes under) St Marys Road. St. Marys Road meanders north mostly like the DPRT and they cross in at least a couple of different places.

Wooded part of DPR trail near Old School FP

This is a nice wooded area between mile 19 and mile 20. This part of the trail is near the Old School Forest Preserve where it intersects with more bike trails that go through it. This can be a nice little side trip to take if you have the time and/or would like to explore the area a little.

DPRT Passage to paradise

This photo (at mile marker 19) isn't that exciting looking, but it has been called the "Secret Passage to Paradise"!  - The last time that my friend cut through this little side trail he ran across a nice couple enjoying nature to the fullest! Birds, bees and all... There are just some many wonderful, and natural things that you see on a bike ride!

DPRT and North Short Bike Path intersection

OK, here's another one of the signs that you probably can't read online, but I left this one in because it is significant... This is where the North Shore Path connects with the Des Plaines River trail. You can head east from here to Lake Michigan (but that is quite a ride... not just a little side trip...) The North Shore Trail  (this is an East/West route) also connects to the Green Bay Bike trail and the Robert McClory Bike Path.

Here's the Photo Tour of the Half Day to Old School Forest Preserve ride from August 16th, 2014. These pages include photos of the DPR Trail in this section along with some nice scenery photos (including a few HDR photos) taken from various locations on the trail.
