DPRT Photos South of Euclid/Lake Street

This a low profile photo of the Des Plaines River Trail, with plenty of fall color, just south of Euclid/Lake Street. One of the photography effects that I like to use once in a while is to set the camera on the ground for this kind of low profile photo. There is actually a trail here but you can't see it because of all the leaves. Sometimes if the ground profile is too low or obstructed I will set the camera on something (like the camera bag) to get it a little higher.

The leaf covered trail and colorful trees. I had planned to get out to this heavily wooded area as close to peak fall color season as I could and I was glad that I did.

Even though this was an overcast day, the colors were excellent as I rode through the heavily wooded parts of the DPRT.

There is actually a small stone bridge in the distance although you can barely see it with all the leaves on the trail.

Another biking/photography trick that I learned and used on this shot is to set the camera on my bike bag (which is on a rack over the back wheel) with my bike on it's kick stand. This allows me to get a lower angle than standing but higher than on the ground and turns my bike into a tripod for better camera settings.

This is a looking down the Des Plaines River Trail from the leaf covered stone bridge. The only way that you actually know that there is a bridge here is because of the moss covered stone that stands out from the leaves on the right.

This photo is actually taken with the camera on the stone bridge with the moss in the foreground (and fall colors in the background, of course). Having the camera on the ground or on something stable (like the bridge) allows you to use a much slower shutter speed and lower ISO. I then use the pop out view finder to line up the shot.
