The Lincolnshire Path (DPRT detour)

This is how you used to have to go back before the new trail extension was completed. This is not necessary any more but I am keeping these photo pages to show how it used to be.

They call this the "Lincolnshire Path" and it really just goes west for a very short distance out to Milwaukee Road.

Lincolnshire Path heading west

This is what the Lincolnshire Path (part of DPRT) looks like as you head west for a short distance.

DPRT detour at Milwaukee and Aptakisic

This is where you come to the break in the trail at the busy Milwaukee Ave. and Aptakisic Road intersection.

Bike path next to Milwaukee Avenue

Although there is actually a sidewalk on the west side of Milwaukee Road, you would need to cross over and cross back or just take this short dirt bike path along the road here for this short distance.

Bike Path and Par-King golf alonside Milwaukee avenue

I chose the dirt path and it was easy. On the left is the Par-King miniature golf course (just before you get to the Cubby Bear restaurant and bar). This is the only real break in the trail from Lincolnshire to Dundee Road in Wheeling (and beyond... I just ended this particular ride in Wheeling).

Cubby Bear as seen from bike path detour

...and as promised, this is as you come up to the Cubby Bear where the DPRT continues south as a bike trail once again. Turn LEFT here and go to the back of the parking lot to get back on the trail.

Getting back on DPR Trail from Cubby Bear parking lot

This is how the DPRT looks as you get back on from the east end of the Cubby Bear parking lot.

Once again, this detour, along Milwaukee is no longer necessary now that they have extended the trail through this area. This part of the trail is really nice now and not having to go out to Milwaukee Ave is great.

Here's the Photo Tour of the Half Day to Old School Forest Preserve ride from August 16th, 2014. These pages include photos of the DPR Trail in this section along with some nice scenery photos (including a few HDR photos) taken from various locations on the trail.
