The Robert McClory Bike Path (25 miles) connects to the Green Bay Bike Trail on it's southern end and the Kenosha Trail (Wisconsin) on it's northern end. The trail also connects to the North Shore Bike Path which runs parallel to route 176 and is a great east/west connection to the Des Plaines River Trail and a number of other great bike trails.

The Robert McClory bike trail has some very nice areas and some not so nice areas. I feel that it is very important to mention this because it goes through some not so great parts of North Chicago and Waukegan. The southern end, from the Great Lakes Naval Base south to the Green Bay bike trail is great and the northern end from just north of Waukegan on north to the Kenosha Trail in Wisconsin is also pretty nice. But the sections that go through North Chicago and some of Waukegan are not very scenic (at best) and possibly even dangerous at times...

Our Robert McClory Bike Trip

The photos in the photo tour section for this trail are from July, 2008 where we started our trip at the Lake Bluff train station (just off of route 176) and went north to the WIsconsin border, and the Kenosha trail, then came back south and branched off of the RM trail at 9th street where we headed east to the North Point Marina and the Illinois State Beach park.

Like I say, there are some very nice sections of the Robert McClory trail, but my favorite part of this trip was our side trip to the Illinois State Beach Bike Path. There are some great scenic rides in the Illinois State Beach park, along Lake Michigan!

We also made our way to the Nuclear Power Plant, just south of the park. That is a pretty awesome and somewhat eerie place. It was a pretty nice area, but I had this strange glow when I went to bed that night . :-) (just kidding...)

After taking quite a long trip on the Illinois State Beach bike trails, we eventually headed west on Wadsworth Road back to the Robert McClory Trail.
